OpenOSX Office is now shipping with a variety of component products, including AbiWord, Gnumeric and Gimp. OpenOSX ports open source software targeted to Mac OS X users.

AbiWord is an open source alternative to Microsoft Word. Version can edit Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, XHTML and RTF documents. It boasts multiple columns, on-the-fly spell checking, style sheets, multiple language support and more. AbiWord can write RTF, HTML, XHTML, PalmDoc and ASCII document formats.

Gnumeric is a spreadsheet with 95 percent of the functions of Microsoft Excel built-in, according to Jeshua Lacock of OpenOS X. Version 0.74 can edit Microsoft Excel, Lotus 123, MultiPlan, Plan Perfect, HTML and CSV file formats. It sports a comprehensive function suite, data analysis tools, data consolidation, cell formatting, multiple undos, and search and replace, Lacock said. Gnumeric will write Excel, PDF, HTML, XML, CSV and Data Interchange Format files.

Gimp is The GNU Image Manipulation Program, a graphics editor. Version 1.2.1 can be used to edit Adobe Photoshop, TIFF, JPEG and PNG file formats. Gimp offers complete image manipulation tools, filters, plug-ins, text and effects. It also has image automation capabilities.

OpenOSX's package will install this suite of tools, as well as variety of open source utilities: XFree86, XDarwin 1.0.4, Ghostview 1.5, Oroborous Window Manager, ORBit 0.5.11, Gnome, Library 0.17, Bonobo 1.0.10, Glib 1.2.8, Libxml 1.8.14, GnomePrint 0.31, and DYLib. All the products ship with online help, documentation, limited support, configured source code and more. The cost is US$30 or $10 if you're upgrading from version 1.0.
