Tricord Systems Inc. announced that a new version if its Illumina software is now available, along with a higher-capacity version of its clustered server appliance, the Lunar Flare NAS 1200. Illumina 2.0 powers both the new 1200 and the existing 1100 model, and adds support for Macintosh clients through AppleTalk, among other features.

The products have been developed for companies that generate large volumes of data but don't have a trained IS staff to manage it, according to Tricord President and CEO Joan Wrabetz.

The Lunar Flare NAS supports 240GB of raw capacity per appliances and can cluster up to 16 appliances together to scale up to 3.8 terabytes of total storage. Lunar Flare NAS clusters can now handle larger files, up to 208GB on a 16-appliance cluster. Some aspects of performance have been increased up to 50 percent, according to the developer.

Other features added to the Illumina software include an SNMP interface, support for uninterrupted power supplies (UPSs), high-speed backup, integrated client load balancing and fail over and increased client count.

A lunar Flare NAS system starts at US$4,999 and includes a one-year warrant and service contract. More details are available from the company's Web site.
