Vet Emergency
Game developer and publisher Legacy Interactive has carved a niche for itself with reality-based games that put you in the role of emergency room doctors and medical technicians with its line of "Emergency Room" games. Now you can try your hand at being a veterinarians at an emergency clinic in a new title called Vet Emergency.

Legacy Interactive explained that Vet Emergency follows the same formula as its Emergency Room games. The company has a "large and loyal customer base that prefers non-violent games over 'shoot'em up' action offerings," according to a recent statement.

In Vet Emergency, you're the new vet at a local emergency clinic and it's up to you to help every animal that comes in the door. Do your job successfully and work your way up to Chief Vet. You'll have to learn all about your patients and their sometimes idiosyncratic and offbeat owners along the way -- folks like Bridge, who bought a puppy after her boyfriend broke up with her; the Cat Lady, with a dozen felines at home and new problems at every turn; a new age couple who want to feed their dog a vegetarian diet; a bunny with a bellyache, and much more. There's a total of about three dozen animals you'll need to treat in the course of the game.

As with the Emergency Room series, you have more than 40 realistic tools at your disposal and real-life procedures to follow as you diagnose and treat the ailing animals whose owners have brought them in for care. Video sequences help give you background info and more data to help diagnose the sick pets, too. Three modes of play will keep you on your toes -- Easy, Normal, and Expert. The cases themselves were developed by real veterinarians.

System requirements for Vet Emergency call for a PowerPC-equipped Mac running at 266MHz or faster; 32MB RAM; 16x CD-ROM drive; 16-bit capable vide card; Mac OS 8.1 or higher (Mac OS X requirements were not available when MacCentral went to press with this article).

Developed and published by Legacy Interactive and distributed by Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing, Vet Emergency is available for a suggested retail price of US$29.95. You can also purchase directly from Legacy Interactive at the Web site above.
