UMAX has added a new member to its line of consumer-oriented digital cameras: the AstraPix 540, a 2-megapixel digital camera that can also function as a digital camcorder, Web cam, audio recorder, and MP3 player.

The AstraPix 540 features a 1.6-inch TFT display, optical viewfinder, and 16-level digital zoom. It can capture pictures at a resolution of 1600 x 1200, which can produce prints up to 10 x 13 cm at 300 dpi (dots per inch). The AstraPix 540 can also capture AVI video clips at 320 x 240 resolution and rapid images in continuous mode at three pictures per shot in 1,280 x 1,024 resolution.

The camera -- which has a metallic finish -- features a self-timer and ships with 7MB of onboard memory and a Compact Flash card slot for up to 256 MB of storage. It's compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x.

Additionally, the digital camera includes a TV output cable for previewing and sharing images. It has USB connectivity and a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$199 -- though you can get it for $149 at the UMAX Web site.
