AJA Video Systems Inc. is shipping Io, its uncompressed audio/video capture device for Final Cut Pro. Io works through FireWire. The device is available through select dealers and distributors.

Io enables Power Mac or PowerBook G4 users to grab uncompressed 8 or 10-bit Standard Definition (SD) broadcast video through FireWire. The device supports component and composite analog video; SDI digital video; balanced and unbalanaced analog audio; AES/EBU digital; optical ADAT; optical S/PDIF; RS-422 machine control; and genlock.

Io can stand alone on a desk as an external peripheral, or occupy a rack as well. AJA has designed the Io to complement the silver finishes of Apple Xserve and Xserve RAID systems.

What's more, Aja plans to demonstrate Io in operation at New York and Los Angeles Apple retail store locations during the company's forthcoming "4@4" event to mark the release of Final Cut Pro 4. On Saturday, June 14, Io will be shown at both The Grove and the SoHo locations. In SoHo, AJA president John Abt and Io worldwide product manager Ted Schilowitz will be on hand to demonstrate how the Io works.

Io's suggested retail price is US$2,290.
