FireWire Depot is offering new options in its line of FireWire 800 peripherals. The company has noted a quartet of enclosures that sport the faster interface, all to be released in late June and by mid-July.

FireWire 800 is the high-speed peripheral interface also known as IEEE 1394b. It was first introduced to Mac users with the 17-inch PowerBook G4 this past January, and has since been implemented on other Mac models. Users of older Macs can also install a third-party PCI card to add FireWire 800 capability to their machines.

FireWire Depot's new products include:

  • SlimLine-800 FireWire 800/USB 2 3.5-inch drive enclosure, US$179.95 (coming in mid-July);
  • MantaRay-800 FireWire 800/USB 2 3.5-inch drive enclosure, $179.95 (available late June);
  • Speedzter3-800 FireWire 800/USB 2 3.5-inch drive enclosure; $179.95 (available late June); and
  • Speedzter3-800 FireWire 800 only 3.5-inch drive enclosure; $169.95 (available late June)
  • All drives are ATA6-compatible, so they can support drives greater than 160GB in capacity.
