Destineer subsidiary MacSoft has announced plans to release a beta tech demo version of Neverwinter Nights on Tuesday, June 17. The beta tech demo will be available as a free download.
MacSoft's Mac conversion of Neverwinter Nights is a role playing game created by BioWare Corp. The game has long been sought by Mac players looking for a Dungeons & Dragons-style game for their Macs. It was released last year by Infogrames (now Atari).
Neverwinter Nights enables users to not only play by themselves and online, but they can also act as Dungeon Masters, coordinators of modules that other gamers can play, similar to the pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons game.
Alas, the Mac version lacks the ability to create its own modules, due to the absence of level editing tools -- a sore spot with Mac RPG enthusiasts who have been anxiously awaiting this game's release. Fortunately, the Mac version of Neverwinter Nights is compatible with modules created for the PC version, so Mac gamers can enjoy the fruits of other NWN enthusiasts' labor.
The Neverwinter Nights tech demo requires a Mac with a G3/450MHz or faster, 256MB RAM, 32MB video card, and 645MB hard disk space. Look for the demo version to appear on Macgamefiles.com and MacUpdate.com on Tuesday, June 17.
