QuickerTek Inc. has released a new external antenna upgrade for Apple Airport wireless Base Stations that's designed to enhance the range and speed of wireless networks.

An antenna upgrade for an existing Snow or Graphite Airport Base Station, you can have it installed by sending your unit to QuickerTek. The company adds a 5Dbi omnidirectional antenna that purportedly increases the effective line-of-sight range to 500 yards. QuickerTek guarantees a 24-hour "receive to ship" turnaround.

The antenna upgrade works with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x; no special software upgrades or drivers are needed. The Airport Base Station Antenna has a list price of US$250. There's also an advance exchange option that costs $350; it provides a $100 rebate paid after the customer sends in a working base station, for a net cost of $250.
