InterACTIVE-Technology has released the "ActiveDeveloper User Guide" with an extensive introduction to using the IDE on Mac OS X 10.1 and 10.2. ActiveDeveloper is the company's Runtime Objective-C and C IDE, JIT compiler, and debugger for Apple's Cocoa development environment.

The new user guide offers a hands-on approach in showing how to use ActiveDeveloper and incorporates several screen shots. It covers how to use the IDE with the "precooked" demos contained in the ActiveDeveloper download package, as well as how to use it in your own Objective-C projects.

ActiveDeveloper costs US$49 for a single platform, single-user license, $99 for a commercial, single platform, multi-user license, and $249 for an educational, single platform, five-pack license.

FTP Suite

Pyramid Designs has updated FTP Suite, a set of classes and code modules that allows FTP operations to be implemented in REALbasic applications, to version 2.0. REALbasic is the development environment from Real Software; it's compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x.

FTP Suite 2.0 adds a Get/SetPassive\Mode that lets you transfer files using the PASV mode. Control of the transfer is the server's responsibility and it sends a new port for the client to listen on for the transfer. There are other tweaks and bug fixes, as well.

Version 2.0 is a free upgrade to all 1.x professional, hobbyist, and source code licensees. For new users, Pyramid Design offers three types of licenses: a $59.95 pro license (which allows use in any commercial product or in-house tool), a $29.95 hobbyist license (which allows use in free or shareware programs), and a source code license. For the latter you'll have to contact Pyramid Design for details. A demo that contains a programmer's manual and demo program is available at the company's Web site

HLBClass

Colourfull Creations has released HLBClass for Mac OS X, Mac OS 9.x, and Windows REALbasic developers. It lets you create and manage a high-power hierarchical listbox.

HLBCLass has over 20 methods added onto the standard listbox class. Colourfull Creations says it's written "from both a developer's perspective and a user's guidance." More details are available at the company's Web site.
