Toon Boom Technologies has released an "Express" version of its animation tool for those who don't need all the bells and whistles of the high-end version.
Toon Boom Studio is a US$375 2D animation application designed to complement Macromedia's Flash technology for users looking for 3D scene planning, camera moves, and lip synch tools.
The $114 Toon Boom Studio Express is targeted to users who wish to create animations for Web sites, Flash banner ads, interactive projects, games, videos, PDAs, and more.
Whereas Toon Boom Studio has unlimited pegs, cameras, scenes and frames, Toon Boom Express is limited to two pegs, one camera, one scene and 1,000 frames. Toom Boom Studio also lets you export to QuickTime while Toom Boom Express doesn't.
However, you can upgrade from the express version to Toon Boom Studio later if you wish. The upgrade price is $230, Karina Bessoudo of Toon Boom Technologies told MacCentral.
