FileMaker Inc. will showcase a variety of K-12 education software solutions, based on FileMaker Pro 6 and designed for both teachers and administrators, at next week's National Educational Computing Conference (NECC).

FileMaker Pro is workgroup database software that's compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.6-9.x. NECC is the world's largest annual educational technology show. This year it's being held June 29 - July 2 in Seattle, Washington.

K-12 teachers and administrators at NECC will see more than 10 FileMaker-based solutions, including:

  • KEYSTONE, a student information system; PORTAL, a school admissions system; ADVOCATE, a college guidance solution; and GENERATIONS, a fund-raising/alumni development system. All are created by inResonance, Inc.
  • CourseWizard, a product for managing the professional development process, and Dragon Web Surveys, an Internet-based survey tool. Both are created by Waves in Motion.
  • Maintenance Tracker from Learning Pathways, a facilities and technology tracking system designed to manage facility repairs and increase school districts' operational efficiency.
  • Web Grades, an online report card solution that's built to manage the report card process, and InSite for Education, a professional development course registration system designed to help school boards meet training information management needs. Both are products of CoreSolutions Development.
  • eTeacher, a solution designed to help teachers integrate outcome-based curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting; mVal, a system for developing and completing performance appraisals for professional staff or students; and IEP-X, for helping create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. All were created by Media-X Systems.
  • FileMaker Pro 6 has a suggested list price of US$299; upgrades are $149. FileMaker Pro 6 shares the same file format as FileMaker Pro 5 and 5.5, so FileMaker Pro 6 solutions work with FileMaker Server 5 and 5.5. The current FileMaker Server software supports FileMaker Pro 5, 5.5 and 6.

FileMaker Pro 6 Unlimited enables publishing FileMaker databases to an unlimited number of Web users over a corporate intranet or the Internet. It costs $999 ($499 upgrade for licensed customers of FileMaker Pro 5 or 5.5 Unlimited). Volume license pricing is available. FileMaker Developer 6, for creating professional FileMaker solutions, includes the features of FileMaker Pro 6, script debugger, database design report and developer tool; it's priced at $499.
