A Change of Theme

Reader Richard Troxel writes:

"In iDVD is there any way to bypass using a theme when creating a DVD? I developed a movie in iMovie and I simply want to burn that movie on a DVD without one of the program's all-too-cute themes."

You can avoid using Apple's themes by creating one of your own. Here's how:

Open a graphics application and create a 640 x 480 blank TIFF file. Save.

Open iDVD 4, click the Customize button, and, in the Themes tab of the resulting pane, select Old Themes from the pop-up menu. Select the Parchment theme and click the Settings tab. Drag the blank TIFF file you created into the Background field currently occupied by the Parchment graphic. To change the styles of the text and buttons, make adjustments in the appropriate locations of the Settings pane.

Click Save as Favorite and, in the resulting sheet, name your blank theme. To avoid overwriting the Parchment theme, uncheck the Replace Existing option. Click OK and your uninteresting theme will appear when you choose Favorites from the Themes pop-up menu.

Why the Parchment theme? I chose it only because it doesn't have a motion menu or background audio file associated with it. I could have altered a more complicated theme, but doing so requires additional mucking.
