iPod University

Pappy's iPod
(Something light for Friday...)

I am a product of the University of California. I went as an undergraduate to the San Diego campus and did my graduate work (as well as several years of teaching) at UC Berkeley. More to the point, my family has had season tickets to Cal football games for 35-plus years now.

So imagine my thrill when Macworld Intern (and UC Berkeley student) Cyrus Farivar took the photo you see to the right. That's a statue on the Berkeley campus of legendary Cal coach Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf, but he's had Cyrus's iPod and headphones attached to him. It just looks so natural -- no wonder Pappy was so ahead of his time as a coach!

Is this the beginning (or middle, or end?) of a trend to photograph statues with iPods attached to them? It should be. Can the Lincoln Memorial or, more importantly, the Sun God be far behind?

But Cyrus is far from the only person walking the campus of UC Berkeley, iPod in hand. Today's edition of the Berkeley campus newspaper the Daily Californian features an amusing opinion column by Anna Kaufman about being one of the "iPod People" around campus.

It's good to be an iPod person. Just ask ol' Pappy over there.
