Putting your photos online with Galerie

Even though my wife and I both have .Mac accounts, I still wanted to have the ability to post picture galleries on my blog site. The problem was that nothing offered me an easy want to get my photos from iPhoto onto the Web and build a nice looking gallery: until now. I am finally getting my photos online using an application called Galerie (   ; www.myriad-online.com/perso/photos/galerie.html ). If you use iPhoto for your images and want to post them on the Web, this application is the best I’ve seen so far.

Galerie is incredible simple to use and has more user-configurable features than any other plug-in or application—and best of all, it’s free. Galerie also comes with many pre-installed themes and more available to download from the developers Web site.

To make an album, just start the application—it launches iPhoto for you—and choose the iPhoto album that you want to use. Then it’s just a matter of indicating the size of the images and thumbnails and Galerie looks after everything else for you. I tried to use the built-in upload feature, but I didn’t have any luck with that. No matter, I just uploaded them directly into the ftp and everything works.

One of the great things is the applications ability to make an index page, complete with thumbnails and a description of the photo album. I currently have 4,000 pictures that I’m sorting through to put online and having the index is a must-have as more pictures go on the Web.

To make an index page the albums have to be in separate folders, in the same root directory; drag-and-drop the individual folders into the application interface, put in a comment for each album when prompted, and it will generate an index of all your online albums.

Overall, Galerie was easy to use and exceeded my expectations.
