Tekkeon has introduced myPower for iPod, a case that contains an extra battery for longer use as well as FireWire and USB 2.0 ports for syncing and recharging the MP3 player without removing it. The rechargeable lithium polymer battery built into the case provides 4G and iPod Photo owners with 32 more hours of play time, 3G users 20 hours and iPod mini owners 28 hours. Tekkeon notes, however, that those numbers are lower when the iPod's backlight is turned on.
myPower for iPod also features a belt clip, a switch for turning off the extra battery, a line out port for connection to a stereo or external speakers and a five-volt charging outlet for simultaneously replenishing the battery in a cell phone or other compatible device. In addition, it can use the iPod's power adapter for pass-through charging to the MP3 player's internal battery.
Tekkeon expects to make myPower for iPod available through its online store this month, with the product hitting store shelves during the first quarter of next year. The suggested retail price is US$89.95 and it comes with FireWire and USB 2.0 cables and four sets of sizing pads for the different iPods available. myPower for iPod is compatible with 3G and 4G iPods, iPod Photo and iPod mini.
