Nevada City, Calif.-based Telestream on Monday released Flip4Mac, a utility that enables Microsoft Windows Media 9 SD and HD encoding in any application that supports QuickTime Export, such as iMovie, QuickTime Player, Final Cut Pro HD, Discreet Cleaner and others. Telestream noted that an upcoming release of Sorenson Media Squeeze 4 Compression Suite Macintosh will also support Flip4Mac.
The utility comes in two versions: Standard (US$99) offers single-pass encoding, constant and variable bit rates, support for Windows Media Audio 9 Standard and audio sampling rates up to 48kHz; and Pro/HD ($179), which includes everything in the Standard edition but increases video encoding to two passes and supports video resolutions up to HD, the Windows Media Audio Professional and Lossless codecs, 5.1 channel audio and audio sampling rates up to 96kHz. Mac OS X v10.3 is required.
