Other World Computing on Wednesday announced the release of its Mercury Pro DVR-109 -- an external optical drive capable of burning dual-layer DVD -/+ R/RW media at up to 16x speed. The new drive features both USB 2.0 and FireWire interfaces, and is certified to work with EMC Dantz's Retrospect backup software.
The new Mercury Pro drive uses a Pioneer DVR-109 mechanism, which supports dual-layer media, making it possible to store up to 8.5GB per disc. It can also burn CD-R media at up to 40x speed. OWC includes DragonBurn and Retrospect Express software; also included are 5 DVD-R discs, 25 CD-R discs and connecting cables.
