The Omni Group has announced the first public beta release of OmniGraffle 4, its diagramming and drawing application. New to this release is an improved user interface and new features that help users brainstorm, draft, import, export and manage documents.
The new interface includes consolidated inspectors: Eighteen inspectors have been consolidated to three inspector windows, each with tab-like buttons. A new utility drawer contains the new outline view, and lists canvases and their layers.
New features in the upcoming release include a new dynamic outline view, diagram styles, a bezier curve drawing tool and improved import and export support. OmniGraffle 4 now supports LiveLink, a content management tool developed as open source that allows you to edit copies of external content linked inside your OmniGraffle documents. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is also supported as an export option.
What’s more, The Omni Group is also working on OmniGraffle Professional 4, a new pro-level version that includes new features like master canvases, notes, tables, document scale support, import and export support for Visio XML schemas and more.
The Omni Group expects to release OmniGraffle 4 in early summer for US$79.95; the Pro version costs $149.95. Upgrades from the previous release cost $29.95 and $49.95 respectively.
