If you’re concerned about the environmental impact of disposing of your old PowerBook or iBook battery, you may be interested in a new program from Newer Technology Inc. that rewards users with a $19 rebate to be used on the purchase of a new battery. The old battery is then properly disposed of.
Newer’s NuPower batteries offer a higher-capacity charge than Apple’s OEM batteries. They start at US$119.99 and can provide up to 50 percent more capacity than a stock battery.
The company limits the rebate to $19, but is willing to accept up to 3 batteries for disposal for each NuPower battery that’s purchased. A Web page enables users to generate a rebate return label that can be used to ship the old batteries to Newer for disposal.
