On2 Technologies Inc. on Wednesday announced its On2 Video for Macintosh Software Developer Kit for Mac. The kit enables Macintosh software developers to build video encoding and decoding into their own applications using On2’s VP6 and VP7 technology. Licensing inquiries should be directed to

Douglas A. McIntyre, On2’s chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement that the Macintosh SDK is at 100 percent feature parity with its Windows counterpart. “In short, this SDK empowers Mac developers to do everything with On2 Video that can.”

On2 claims its TrueMotion VP7 technology is “the world’s best video compressor,” capable of offering better video quality and compression ratios that exceed H.264 and MPEG-4.

The SDK created for Macintosh software developers is optimized for G4 and G5 processors. It supports a wide variety of video input formats, live real-time encoding, multi-pass encoding and more.
