Sorenson Media announced the release of Sorenson Squeeze 4.3. Available for both Macintosh and Windows operating systems, Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 Compression Suite and Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 for Macromedia Flash introduce new tools to enhance and support multimedia creation using Macromedia Flash.
Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 furnishes users with a new freely distributable cross platform FLV player for easy playback and preview of FLV files. In addition, this version offers alpha channel support for blue-screen type special effects as well as embedded cue points and global metadata options. The cue points and metadata have the ability to make Flash video more searchable and accessible.
Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 also offers plug-in support for On2 Technology’s VP6 Pro video codec. With 2-Pass Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoding for Flash, this optional Sorenson plug-in provides video quality comparable to today’s best video codecs, but at a much smaller file size. Sorenson claims the combination of 2-Pass VBR and cue points makes Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 the only video compression product to offer both features in one application.
Another addition to the Flash features in Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 is a new group of Flash player templates, giving users tools for adding a custom look and feel to a Flash player.
Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 Compression Suite costs $449 and Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 for Macromedia Flash costs $119. Both are now available for purchase on Sorenson’s Web site. The professional version of the On2 VP6 plug-for both versions of Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 is available for US $199. Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 is a free upgrade to owners of Squeeze 4.0 or later.
