A minor update to MacSoft’s Zoo Tycoon 2 addresses a serious crashing problem experienced by users of Apple’s newer PowerBook and iBook laptops. The free update is available for download from MacSoft’s Web site.

Zoo Tycoon 2 puts you in the role of an entrepreneur tasked with creating a profitable zoo that’s also safe for the animals. You set up exhibits, concessions and more to draw in your crowd, making sure you have areas set up that are healthy and suitable for the animals in your care. You can even walk through the park from the patron’s perspective using the game’s 3D engine, and learn more about the animals you’re showing using the game’s Zoopedia.

Zoo Tycoon 2 v1.0.1 corrects a problem involving the new multi-touch touchpad installed on newer PowerBook and iBook systems.

Such systems “would randomly crash due to a bug in the game’s Carbon Event processing subsystem. Users not experiencing this issue will not need this update,” said MacSoft in a statement.
