Mobility Electronics has introduced its new Magma PCI Express to PCI Expansion Chassis. It cost $1,999.

The chassis provides the ability for a PCI Express-based Power Mac G5 to run up to six PCI or PCI-X cards using one PCI Express slot. The chassic contains six 64-bit/66MHz PCI slots which connect to the host computer using a four-lane PCI Express host interface card and a pair of Infiniband cables.

No software is required to use the chassis, according to Mobility. The host system is automatically configured; all of the cards in the chassis appear transparent to the host computer. LEDs on the chassis indicate correct installation.

The chassis is rack-mountable and occupies 4U in a rack-mount space. It comes equipped with a 400W auto-switching power supply and cooling fan. The Magma chassis works with Mac OS X, Red Hat Linux and Windows-based computers.
