E3: Blizzard announces new World of Warcraft race

Blizzard Entertainment revealed a new playable race that will be included with this year’s release of the World of Warcraft expansion pack, The Burning Crusade. The Draenei will be available as an Alliance race.

Blizzard has updated the Burning Crusade mini-site with details about the Draenei, including extensive background information about their history. A new gameplay trailer has been added too.

Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role playing game that was released simultaneously for Mac and PC in 2004. The game lets players assume the role of heroes of different races who populate the war-torn land of Azeroth — Alliance races, such as Humans, Night Elves and Dwarves, and Horde races, such as Orcs, Tauren and Trolls. Players can assume different professions as they populate a persistent online world, going on quests alone or together, fighting monsters, collecting treasure and more.

Blizzard has continued to develop and refine World of Warcraft for both platforms since then, and continues to do so with the new expansion pack, The Burning Crusade. The Burning Crusade will add new content such as new playable races, a new continent to explore, new quests, higher character leveling and much more. Blizzard has not announced a release date for the expansion pack yet.

Other content added to the Burning Crusade mini-site includes more on the history of another playable race coming to the game — the Blood Elves, a Horde variation on the already present Night Elves. News has also been posted about Naxxramas, a new raid dungeon that’s coming with the next content patch for World of Warcraft.
