Apple on Thursday released MacBook SMC Firmware Update, for its line of MacBook (not MacBook Pro) laptop computers. The update is available for download from Apple’s Web site.

This firmware revision patches the MacBook’s System Management Controller (SMC). The SMC is a micro-controller on the logic board of the MacBook and other Mac laptops that controls various functions, including power and thermal management. Once this update is applied, the SMC version will appear as 1.4f10.

Apple reports that the update adjusts fan behavior in the MacBook. Please read the instructions carefully before using this updater application.
