Aspyr Media — which recently overhauled its Web site with a fresh new look and lots more media content — announced Thursday plans to publish a Mac version of the expansion pack “The Sims 2 Pets,” and should have it on store shelves within about two weeks or so of the Windows version’s release. EA plans the Windows release in late October, Aspyr plans the Mac release in early November.

The Sims 2 Pets is the fourth expansion pack available to Mac users of the popular game, which puts you in charge of virtual people — Sims — as they make lives for themselves, having friendships and relationships, getting jobs, earning money, decorating their homes and trying to achieve life goals and aspirations.

The Sims 2 Pets lets Sims 2 players create the perfect pet for their Sims to train, play with and love. Players can choose from dozens of popular dog and cat breeds, or create a unique dog or cat that truly reflects their Sim owner’s personality. You can teach them tricks, take them out for walks in the park, and buy them toys and accessories. It doesn’t just stop at dogs and cats, too — you can choose from birds and guinea pigs too.

Like the Sims themselves, Sims Pets have genetics — you can cross different breeds to create “designer” pets or make new ones all together. And pets can have jobs as movie stars, rescue pets or members of the Security Pet Corps.

More general information about The Sims 2 Pets is available from EA’s Web site — Aspyr’s site is expected to be updated soon, as well.
