Aspyr Media on Thursday announced plans to release a Macintosh conversion of Star Wars: Empire at War, the real time strategy game set in the Star Wars universe. Aspyr plans to release the game for the Mac in February, 2007.

In Star Wars: Empire at War, players can assume the roles of either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire — the two factions that vie for control in the original trilogy of Star Wars films. The setting is a few years before the events in Episode IV: A New Hope .

You’ll travel to locations you’ve seen in the films like Yavin IV, Tatooine and Dagobah, as well as ntirely new environments, as you build and set up tactical forces which are then unleashed in real-time in 3D. You can call in Star Wars hero characters to help you battle as you harvest resources, build, manage and upgrade both space and ground-based units, vehicles, troops and base structures.

Aspyr hasn’t yet posted details to its Web site but expects to soon. In the interim, you can find out more from the official Empire at War Web site.
