IK Multimedia has updated its guitar amp and effects application, AmpliTube 2, bring the most current version to 2.1. The update adds compatibility with Intel-based Mac systems, Pro Tools 7 native support and improved CPU efficiency, according to the company.

A standalone version of AmpliTube is also available as part of the 2.1 update, which includes SpeedTrainer, an audio player with pitch and speed controls that make it perfect for learning any of your favorite songs. SpeedTrainer allows you to drag any WAV or MP3 file from your hard disk and set loop points, making it easier to play along.

Another big change is that with this update users will no longer require a USB iKey or dongle for authorization.

AmpliTube 2.1 is available as a free download for registered users from the company’s Web site.
