When one of my cousins was young, he supposedly got his hands on his mother's car keys and inserted them into a convenient wall socket. I can't blame him for that: after all, who hasn't thought "gee, this key and that electrical socket are a perfect fit " at least once in their life? I can, however, blame him for the fact that when my aunt snatched the keys away from him, he managed to get ahold of them again and do the same thing.
Parenting issues aside, it seems like there should be a better way of protecting your young uns or extremely clever pets. You could always put those little plastic caps on all your outlets, but they're easy to lose and not terribly difficult for kids to take off. That's where the Tamper-Proof Outlet comes in. It contains a shutter mechanism that prevents foreign objects from being inserted while simultaneously accepting your standard two- or three-prong plug.
The outlets are available for $6.99. A small price to pay for putting an end to hair-raising adventures.
