MarsEdit adds Vox blog support

Mac OS X blogging utility MarsEdit has been updated to 1.2. The new version is a free update for registered users and can be downloaded from the Web site now. MarsEdit costs $24.95.

Red Sweater Software recently acquired MarsEdit from its original developer, NetNewsWire creator Brent Simmons.

MarsEdit works with popular blogging services like Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, Movable Type and others to enable you to post to your blog without having to use a Web-based interface. It supports embedding images, works with Technorati tags and can automatically ping blog search engines. It also works with external editors like BBEdit, SubEthaEdit and TextWrangler, and supports AppleScript.

New to the 1.2 release is support for Growl, the popular notification system for Mac OS X that enables applications to provide you with new info without having to switch from whatever app you’re working in at that moment. MarsEdit now works with Growl to give you notifications for publishing, refreshing and uploading.

Also new in this release is initially support for Vox, the free blogging service offered by Movable Type developer Six Apart. And support for image uploads via Picasa has been added to blogs hosted on Blogger.com.
