Introducing iPhone Central

It’s almost time. After years of rumors and six months of hype, Apple’s iPhone arrives in a week, on June 29 at 6 p.m. (Residents of Hawaii, please stop complaining. You live in paradise — that’s worth a three-hour wait.)

As you might expect, Macworld’s pulling out all the stops to cover the iPhone’s arrival. In addition to this very newsletter, which will now be released weekly, we’ve added a brand-new blog — iPhone Central — to provide you with up-to-date news, tips, and first-hand reports from Macworld’s team of iPhone experts.

What’s that, you say? You weren’t aware that we had a team of experts? Well, we most certainly do. There’s Christopher Breen, the world’s foremost iPod authority; Dan Frakes, who has personally reviewed hundreds of iPod accessories; Dan Moren, the editor of our MacUser.com weblog; Jim Dalrymple, our news director and a man who has never met a cell phone he hasn’t bought; and someone who has been waiting to chuck his Treo 650 out a window since the iPhone was first announced: me.

That’s just the start — we also hope to have contributions from the iPhone-using community, just as soon as that group is not made up almost entirely of people who own their own Apple employee I.D. number.

So get ready for the arrival of the iPhone by reading our coverage over the next week, and then stay tuned on June 29 for wall-to-wall reaction to the arrival of Apple’s most-hyped new toy in years. Personally, I can’t wait. But like I said, I’ve been wanting to chuck my old cell phone for six months now. I’m ready. Are you?

Then let the iPhoning commence!
