Motorola on Tuesday announced the release of Timbuktu Pro 8.7, a new version of its remote control and workstation management software. The update is described as free for registered version 8 users in a press release, although the Web site stipulates a $4.95 fee. The full version costs $99.95.

With Timbuktu Pro installed on host and remote computers, you can view the screen of a remote computer or share your screen with remote computers for collaboration or system management and tech support. You can send large files without using e-mail, find and connect to other users using Bonjour, Apple’s zero-configuration network technology, and communicate by “intercom,” text chat, instant message or using Skype.

New to the 8.7 release is support for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.”

System requirements call for Mac OS X v104 or later, 15MB disk space, 128MB RAM, network connectivity. Timbuktu Pro is a Universal binary.
