Brother International on Tuesday introduced the HL-2170W, a new Mac and Windows-compatible wireless laser printer for $149. The company also unveiled the HL-2140, a $119 model.

Both monochrome laser printers output at up to 23 pages per minute and feature up to 2400 x 600 dot per inch resolution. They include paper trays that can store up to 250 sheets and a manual pass-by slot for envelopes and letterhead.

The HL-2140 uses a USB 2.0 interface and comes in a dark charcoal and grey chassis. It includes 8MB of on-board memory. The HL-2170W adds PCL6 emulation, 32MB RAM, Ethernet networking and 802.11b/g-compatible wireless networking.

Brother sells two toner carts for the printers: The standard yield cartridge produces about 1500 pages and costs $44.99; the high-yield cart lasts for about 2600 pages and costs $64.99. Both printers use the same drum unit, which lasts approximately 12000 pages, according to Brother.

Both printers require Mac OS X v10.2.4 or later.

BrotherÕs Web site had not been updated with information about the new printer models as Macworld posted this article.
