Elgato Systems on Tuesday announced EyeTV 3, a major upgrade to its popular television software, as well as updates for its EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 250 Plus television receivers.

EyeTV 3 features a new, iTunes-inspired interface, including a customizable sidebar and Cover Flow mode for viewing EyeTV recordings. Users can create Smart Playlists for organizing recordings, as well as Smart Guides for automatically searching for and recording TV shows. The new EyeTV Sharing feature allows users to share their libraries with other EyeTV users on the same network.

Also added is the On Screen Menu, a semi-transparent floating options menu for watching and recording TV, which can be controlled from either a mouse or remote control.

EyeTV 3 also includes enhanced Wi-Fi access for viewing recordings on devices across the network, an enhanced editor for precise video trimming, new automatic TV episode management, and more.

EyeTV 3 is now available from Elgato's Online Shop for $79.95. Users who purchased EyeTV 2 on or after December 1st, 2007, are eligible for a free upgrade, while earlier EyeTV 2 purchasers can upgrade for $39.95.

The EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 250 Plus television receivers have also been updated, and can now receive unencrypted digital cable (Clear QAM), in addition to over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and analog cable channels. The prices remain unchanged, at $149.95 for the Hybrid and $199.95 for the 250 Plus.
