Expo Notes: Looks like a flask, works like a hard drive

Editor’s Note: All this week, Macworld editors will report from the Macworld Expo show floor on meetings with Mac developers, new product announcements, and anything else that catches their eye.

Like your portable storage to have a little bit of design flair? At Macworld Expo, Iomega has shown off its new eGo USB 2.0/FireWire line of pocket drives.

A quick look at the eGo and you can see why this bus-powered drive earned the code name “whiskey” inside Iomega. Looking just like a flask, the eGo USB2.0/FireWire is available in four different color/capacity combos (160GB white or red for $189 and 250GB red or black for $229).

If you have trouble hanging onto your eGo, worry not. The drive features Iomega’s patent-pending Drop Guard feature which allows it to withstand a 51-inch drop onto a hard surface. I don’t think my other flask can even handle that.

The Dual Interface eGo Portable Hard Drive will be available next week at select Apple retail outlets as well as Apple’s online store, according to Iomega.
