Freeverse Software on Thursday announced the release of Neon Tango, a new arcade shooter for the Mac. It costs $24.95, and a demo is available for download from the Freeverse Web site.

Neon Tango is an original game for the Mac. Freeverse bills it as a "psychedelic arcade shooter" in which you pilot a "cybership into battle against the forces of chaos." The game features retro vector-style graphics and a techno soundtrack by Andrew "Digital Droo" Tokuda.

Neon Tango plays out against 50 stages filled with enemies and bosses, and includes an online scoring component so you can compare your skills to other Neon Tango players. The game includes tricks like being able to bounce your shots off of walls and charging up your cannon to deliver extra-powerful shots; you can strafe and activate hyper-thrusters for a bit of extra power.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later, G4/800MHz or faster (Intel included).
