Softpress Systems announced Thursday plans to release Freeway 5 Pro and Freeway 5 Express on March 27, 2008. A public beta version is currently available for download.

Freeway is a visually oriented Web page design application that features precise page layout functionality and image control, with tools similar to a page layout application.

New to the version 5 release are CSS-based dropdown menus, scriptable actions, blogger templates, Google content, sliced background images, background effects and nested HTML lists, improved CSS layout and user interface improvements.

The Pro version adds numerous features not found in express, like multiple output options and choice of output encodings, a link map, snapping palettes, CSS-based text styling, import support for Illustrator, Photoshop and TIFF images, extended transformation options and more.

Freeway currently costs $199 or $69 for the Pro and Express versions, respectively. Upgrades from the version 4 releases (and crossgrades from Express to Pro) are available.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later and 128MB RAM.
