Kutoka Interactive on Tuesday announced Mia Reading: The Bugaboo Bugs. It ships on hybrid DVD-ROM for Mac and Windows and costs $24.99.

The latest installment of a series of educational games featuring Mia the mouse, Mia Reading: Bugaboo Bugs offers reading activities that are in sync with the educational curriculum from kindergarten to third grade, according to Kutoka -- all of this offered within the context of an adventure game featuring Mia and her friends.

In this new game, Mia is plagued by the Bugaboos --- bugs who are disrespectful, noisy and uncivilized. They run the risk of annoying the humans enough to call an exterminator, who will end up displacing all of the old Victorian home's animal residents, including Mia and her friends. It's up to Mia to find a way to get the Bugaboos out of the house and keep them out.

The game features a dozen different literacy skills with four age-appropriate levels of difficulty. Tasks include associating images to words, punctuation, phonics, rhymes, spelling, sentence structure, vocabulary, reading comprehension, word recognition, verb tense, adverbs, following instructions and more. The game generates progress reports so you can track the skills of players.

Mia Reading: The Bugaboo Bugs requires Mac OS X v10.4 or later, a G4/1GHz or faster processor and 512MB RAM.
