Recosoft on Thursday announced the release of PDF2Office Personal 4.0, an update to its PDF reconstruction software for Mac OS X. It costs $59; upgrades from previous releases cost $29.

PDF2Office Personal recovers and reuses data stored in PDF documents. You can use it to automatically reconstruct the layout of a document, with paragraphs and styles, independent graphic elements, images, tables, headers, footers, endnotes, footnotes and columns and sections.

New to the 4.0 release is support for Microsoft Word 2008 (it retains compatibility with Word X and Word 2004, also). The Retain Layout conversion feature has been enhanced with more layout retention. An enhanced font matching and substitution mechanism is employed, also. Performance and conversion results have been enhanced thanks to an updated PDF reconstruction engine.

Users who bought PDF2Office Personal after January 1st are entitled to a free upgrade, according to Recosoft.
