Better Energy Systems has released its newest Solio solar charger — the Solio Magnesium Edition, or Solio Mg. It costs $199.99.

The Solio Mg is a universal charger that enables portable devices including iPods, cell phones and other products to charge up their batteries using solar power instead of electricity from an AC outlet. One hour of sunlight can provide an additional 25 minutes of talk time, according to the manufacturer, or 50 minutes of MP3 playback. The Solio Mg supports a maximum output of 8 watts — more than three times the output of a Solio Classic model.

The magnesium portion of the Solio is its alloy shell. Inside is a lithium ion battery that can store power for up to a year. It uses a “Tip System” to make it compatible with iPods, iPhones and other portable devices, including Bluetooth headsets and handheld game systems.
