Mien Software on Wednesday announced the release of MediaEdit 3, a major new release of its video editing tool designed for consumers. It costs $89.95, and a 30 day trial version is available for download.

MediaEdit 3 helps you edit all QuickTime-readable video formats. It lets you add video, audio and text non-destructively, with multiple layers of undo, live previews and background rendering, using a timeline-based interface that should be familiar to users of iMovie and other video editing software.

MediaEdit 3 now supports unlimited layers, so users can create effects like picture-in-picture and video compositing. It also features a standard suite of effects, filters, and transitions, chroma keying, multiply, hard light and matte effects, exports to QuickTime, DV, MPEG-4 and to the Web, can embed chapter markers and create slideshows.
