Iogear on Monday announced that it is shipping its DVI Video Extender Kit. The $499.95 interface enables you to move a DVI display or monitor up to 100 feet away from its host.

The kit comprises two pieces — a receiver and a transmitter. The two connect using Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable and connect to the native source and a DVI display using DVI cords.

Iogear expects the unit to appeal to companies looking for hardware to use in exhibits, trade shows and other public venues where security of the source system may be an issue, universities or industrial installations where the display may need to live in a harsher setting than the source system can tolerate.

In addition to DVI, the extender includes a 3.5mm analog stereo audio jack that can be connected to stereo speakers. The receiver can work up to 100 feet away from the transmitter. It provides DVI-SL video support and is compliant with the DVI 1.0 specification. It also supports VESA-standard display and HDTV resolutions.
