MaxUpgrades on Thursday announced its MaxConnect SAS/SATA Link, a device that installs internally on the Mac Pro and lets you connect four internal disk drives to a PCI Express-based SAS or SATA controller. It costs $89 - $229 depending on connections and controller options.

The MaxConnect SAS/SATA Link can either let you connect the existing internal Serial ATA (SATA) SATA drives on your Mac Pro to a new host controller card or can be used to attach additional internal drives to a host controller card. It can support SATA or Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and supports RAID configurations including Level 0, 1, 5, 6 or more.

The MaxConnect SAS/SATA Link measures a scant 0.45 x 1 x 2 inches and is housed in a machined thermoplastic micro case. It features a dual interface.

The link with MiniSAS 4x SATA cable costs $89, while the link with multilane MiniSAS to MiniSAS cable costs $89.75. Bundled with a 4-port SAS controller that works with the Mac Pro, the cost is $229.
