on Friday introduced two new portable LCD projectors — the PLC-XC55 and PLC-XC50. Both units are expected to be released in July for $1,995 and $1,495, respectively.
Both projectors share some common traits: a 7-watt internal speaker, auto keystone correction, DVI, D-Sub, component, composite and S-video input. Both are equipped with security bar and PIN number that unlocks the projector, to prevent them being used by unauthorized personnel. They also share the same resolution — native 1024 x 768 pixel (XGA) support. The PLC-XC55 outputs up to 3100 ANSI lumens brightness, while the PLC-XC50 outputs at up to 2600 ANSI lumens.
What makes them noteworthy is what Sanyo calls the Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) system, new to its portable projector line. The AMF consists of a filter cartridge with ten lengths of filter material and an airflow sensor that detects when airflow is obstructed by dust; a clean section of filter is then advanced. When the tenth and final section of filter material is extended, a warning message pops up on the display telling you to change the cartridge. Each filter lasts about 3,000 hours, according to Sanyo.
