Gas prices, unfortunately, have continued to climb, so it’s more important than ever to keep track of the fuel efficiency of your car—that way you can tell if you’re using up more gas than you should be, and, if necessary, take your car in for maintenance.
You could just use a pen and paper, but who are you kidding? This is the 21st century, and you’ve got a do-everything go-anywhere iPhone—not to mention it helps avoid the use of dead trees. Joe Kueser’s $1 MPG (iTunes link) lets you keep track of all your mileage needs in a simple, easy to use iPhone application.
With MPG you start a new record every time you fill up the tank, entering how many gallons you put in your car, what it cost you per gallon, and how far you went in the previous trip. Then MPG crunches the numbers for you and lets you know your average miles per gallon.
There’s even a handy set of icons in the list view that show you at a glance whether your mileage is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same as your previous trips. If you start to see red arrows everywhere you go, then maybe it’s time for a visit to the mechanic.
