SmileOnMyMac updated TextExpander, adding features to improve the responsiveness of its typing shortcut tool.

A new feature in TextExpander 2.4 causes the menu icon bar to respond instantly when clicked, no matter how large a user’s snippet library. Users can also navigate the menu bar via the keyboard in the new version.

SmileOnMyMac says other changes introduced in TextExpander 2.4 include bug fixes for a memory leak that could lead to poor performance, a potential system hang if a key was pressed while viewing the menu bar’s menu, and a broken link for predefined Autocorrect snippets.

TextExpander, which lets users define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, costs $30; the 2.4 update is free to registered users. SmileOnMyMac offers a 30-day fully-functioning demo of the productivity utility, which requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
