Iomega on Wednesday announced its eGo Helium portable hard disk drive. The 320GB drive is coming in October for $149.99.
Measuring .63 inches thick and weighing 7 ounces, the eGo Helium comes in an anodized aluminum chassis. Inside is a 2.5-inch hard disk drive mechanism, which connects to your Mac using USB 2.0. Included with the drive is EMC Retrospect and Mozy Home backup software.
The aluminum chassis and its rounded edges were designed to complement the MacBook Air, though it’ll work with other Macs as well. The drive has been formatted with HFS+. Other features include Iomega’s “Drop Guard” design, to protect the drive from drops up to 51 inches onto industrial carpeting. The drive is USB-powered, so it doesn’t need an external power supply.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later.
