SmileOnMyMac on Thursday announced the release of PDFpen 4.0, a major upgrade to its PDF editing software for Mac OS X. It costs $49.95; family pack licenses and a pro version are also available, as well as upgrades from previous releases.

PDFpen lets you add text, images and signatures to PDF files. You can correct text in original DF documents, move, resize, copy and delete images and more.

New to the 4.0 release is basic Optical Character Recognition (OCR) support that recognizes text in many scanned documents. The user interface has been improved, file compatibility has been upgraded, Microsoft Word files can now be imported, notes and comments can be printed, additional markup capabilities have been added like underline, strikethrough and custom highlight color, text imprints can be saved for reuse, TIFF export has been added and much more.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
