Images of a red 4GB iPod nano began showing up on the Internet yesterday, after Gizmodo alerted people to its existence. The strange part is that when Apple unveiled the new nanos two weeks ago, there was no 4GB configuration available.

Apple has since clarified what happened. “We made a limited number of 4GB iPod nanos for some international markets, but this is not one of our main configurations,” a company spokesman said.

The fourth-generation iPod nano comes in 8GB and 16GB capacities and in a variety of colors including purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, black, and silver.
