Software MacKiev on Friday announced the release of Roger Wagner’s HyperStudio 5 for Mac OS X. It costs $89.95.

Originally developed as a Hypercard competitor, HyperStudio is a multimedia authoring tool that found a special niche with families and educators. This version — the first developed by Software MacKiev, which bought the company that owned HyperStudio in 2007 — was designed by Roger Wagner, the application’s original creator.

HyperStudio 5, running on Mac OS X, helps users create and manage digital media, and includes features like podcasting support, webcam support, “live” object mode that lets you edit individual brushstrokes, import music from iTunes, and import Keynote presentations, YouTube videos and old HyperStudio stacks.

You can kern, outline and shadow text, add advanced graphics effects like Antique, Crystallize, Zoom Blur and Pixelate, dozens of brush styles including 3D paint styles and more.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later, G4/400MHz or faster (including Intel Macs), 256MB RAM.
